Elisabeth at the Court of the Sun King

Violin, viola, cello and piano | Ages 7-11, 11-14

Get your time travel passport in order for interactive learning about life and music at the court of  the Sun King! Join us and explore the culturally rich time of Louis XIV through the eyes of one of his favorite musicians, child prodigy Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre.

Violin, viola, cello and piano students come together in a weekend of hands-on learning about baroque music and dance. Workshop leader Emily Hale and colleagues introduce students to period instruments and popular baroque dances (how exactly does one dance a minuet?) and coach student chamber ensembles in preparation for a final performance. The workshop also includes a faculty concert, open to the public.  Parents and teachers are welcome to register and observe sessions as auditors.

First presented by The Music Academy and hosted by the Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA (USA), this workshop received generous grants and gifts from the American String Teachers Association, Central PA Suzuki Association, Junior Baroque Music Festival and a successful crowd-funding campaign on www.kickstarter.com. Please visit www.sunkingbaroqueworkshop.com for more information about the workshop and how to host one in your community!
